Low student to teacher ratios ensure safety and allow for individual attention. Topics to be covered include boat design, river safety, correct paddling strokes, capsizing, proper paddling attire and equipment use.

About the instructor:
Kevin Dempsey is a certified kayaking instructor with the American Canoe Assn. He has been paddling on the Mississippi River for 30 years and has also paddled other bodies of water in the United States and Europe. He is a founding member of the St. Louis Canoe and Kayak Club and has worked closely with the Corps of Engineers in planning and establishing the new Mississippi River Water Trail.
In addition to kayaking he enjoys rowing his replica of a traditional Adirondack Guideboat.
